Sheffield-based publishing company Astronomica Ltd is expanding its operations across design, digital communications, web services and media, bringing together a collection of projects developed since the company was founded in 2023.
The company, which already works in publishing and advertising, says its expanded operation will offer services to businesses, charities, community groups and independent organisations alongside its own publishing work.
Astronomica’s existing projects include Camelot House Publishing, online publication The Epoch and SALAMANDER, a web platform launched earlier this year for websites and other digital services.
The company has also carried out design, branding and communications work and is now developing a wider digital PR operation, including press release publication and distribution.
Astronomica director Q. G. Wingfield said the company’s different areas of work had largely developed from one another.
“Publishing led into design; design led into websites and communications; those things naturally led into media,” Wingfield said.
“We now have the infrastructure at the frontier of digital publishing to bring those parts together and make much more of that work available publicly.”
A broader communications offer
The expansion will see Astronomica offer a combination of publishing, websites, design, communications and media services rather than operating each area entirely separately.
The company says this is partly intended to serve smaller organisations which may require occasional professional communications work without committing to a traditional long-term PR agency arrangement.
Wingfield said many organisations may only need substantial communications support around particular announcements.
“They might have a launch, an appointment, a piece of research, an event or a major development a few times a year,” he said.
“What they need at that point is a good story, presented properly, and a serious attempt to get it seen.”
The company plans to continue developing its publishing and media projects while expanding its commercial work through 2026.
Astronomica Ltd is registered in England and Wales and has its operations based in Sheffield.
